Grim Reaper and His Pal Skeleton

Its a few days late, but here are my boys in the costumes they wanted me to make them.
Sir Grim is my son Daniel and Mr. Skeleton is Christopher
Oddly enough this robe was really easy to make it only took me one hour to make (drafting all the way to last stitch)
The skeleton I spent several hours hand stitching bones onto a store bought sweat suit.
It is possible to sneak up on death!
Christopher hates face paint so I made him a mask.
I did purchase sickle, mask and gloves for this costume the lantern we already owned.
I tied extra fabric to a camping lantern for Grim to carry to light his and Skeletons way. Yes, it was killing them to have to pose together.

Re-puposing Boys Pants

Pants don't come cheap and if there is a way to ease the pain in my wallet by not having to spend extra money to replace them, I'm all for it. I have done all of these in the past just to keep my sons and husbands work pants in the rotation. I would have done a "how to" on these but there are other moms that beat me to it and hey why go and post something that is already explained well on these moms sites.

Image from Tonya Staab
Above and below are both from Tonya Staab's site. Top she has patched the holes with fabric and below she has added fabric cuffs. I have done both of these on the pants of all the men in my house little and big.

Image from Kandeeland
This one is from Kandeeland and it is the most easiest one there is to make shant/jorts/corts...... or any other name for pant shorts. It is also the one we use most often at my house with my youngest. He does not put holes in his knees, his pants get converted because he has long legs and pants look like high waters on him.

Black Beards

I have been wanting to make the boys some beards for play for awhile now. On Christmas Eve I decided that I could easily make some up and have them ready for them in the morning to wear.

love this

I don't know where this came from but I think it is pretty darn funny, it hits home for me and the struggle I have trying to get my boys to keep their uniform shirts tucked in. If you know the source please share so I can give them the credit.

Army Guy

Daniel was a Four Star General for Halloween, and did he play the part. This was a fun costume to make, I had never messed with patches before and got to use them of this.
There are 4 star patches on his right front, 1 eagle patch on his left front, and 2 flags one one each sleeve.

He borrowed his daddy's bandana for his head.

Pattern for the top: Ottobre 3/2009 "FREEMAN"

What a mean looking guy!

Bottoms were from my own patterns.

The Doctor Is In

Just a few Pictures to show off what I made Christopher for Halloween this year. He wanted to be a doctor with only the scrubs, but I thought that people might think that he was a nurse so I added a coat.
He is holding one of the many med syringes from when he was hospitalized over a two months ago for RSV.

He has been so impressed with doctors and respiratory therapists that he knew that he was going to be something medical.

I went ahead and made him a doctors coat and even put his name on to it.

Time to take some medicine.

Freezer Paper Stenciling

photo: sir bubbadoo
I have been doing this for awhile myself but never made a how to for sharing. Kristina at Sir Bubbadoo has put together a great tutorial on how to do freezer paper stenciling and it covers every thing you need to know. The only thing she does differently than I do is she irons afterwards (I never do that, I think should start), but the rest is the same. I love her the onesies she has made.

Make Your Boys Wallet

Over at Noodlehead there is this tutorial "basic boys wallet" and it is awsome!!!

I have wanted to do this for my boys for awhile but failed miserably at Christmas time. In the end I had to go out and buy them wallets. I wished that I would have seen this or that it was posted before I bought ones that were not home made.

If Only I Could

If I could only redo my sons room I would do this.
Photo from Costas Picadas on House of Turquoise
I really like how the beds are right beside each other and that they are on a platform, my boys would love this. Only problem we do not have a space that would accommodate it, but if we did I would totally go for this.

Then He Sailed Away

As promised here it is my kids "Nautical Pants Pattern" also known as my "Sailor Pants Pattern" and its now Free for you to use! This is the EXACT pattern I used to make my Sailor Pants and my Virginia Pants it was also the one I used to do my tutorial for drafting your own Sailor Pants/Shorts pattern with.

These pants are suitable for both boys and girls. I have done denim for boys and corduroy for girls it will work well with most types of fabric.

My son loves them, and wants me to make him some in other colors.

Buccaneer Eye Patch Pattern

Eyeeeeee is for Buccaneer Eye Patch
ARRRRRR, Matey, I think yee needs to walk the plank!
You can either make it out of paper and slit the bottom to
form it's shape or make it out of fabric and leave it as is.
It works great both ways.

We made Christopher's Buccaneer Eye Patch out of a
scrap piece of fabric.

This Buccaneer is missing his sword

Battle Sword PDF

The amazing Battle Boy and his Battle Sword !!
There comes a time in a mans life when he needs a Battle Sword. Lucky for this one he has a mommy that can make him one.
It's good to occasionally hold your sword like a guitar.
 Lopped off a foot, anyone?
 Maybe a toe....

I made his sword using cardboard and electrical tape.
1. Traced the template onto cardboard. You might trace two so you can sandwich them together to make it thicker.

 2. Use scissors or exacto knife to cut out sword (I had to use an exacto knife because of my wrist) do which ever is the easiest for you.

3. Once its cut start taping that sword! You can typically find cheap electrical tape at any discount store 5 color bundle for a buck!

Do you have a little Buccaneer (Pirate) that needs a sword too?
Buccaneer Sword is the same idea but just in a different shape.
Free Buccaneer Sword PDF Template.

Yes, I am aware that sword is spelled wrong on the
pdf files, please ignore it.
